Put the following documents together in a file as they are received.
If documents come via email, PRINT them so they are ready for the preparer.
- W-2 Forms
- 1099 Forms from banks and other payers including any 1099-INT
- Other income documents including statement of unemployment benefits received.
- Summary of Rental Income and Expenses for inclusion on Schedule E
- Copies of brokerage statements
Remember to Tell us if:
- You moved since the last tax return was filed
- You have a new phone number or email
- MOST IMPORTANT – If your bank account number has changed for direct deposit
Other Documents to have ready:
- Property tax Statements & vehicle registrations
- Settlement statements if you bought or sold a home during 2022
- Change in marital status – include copy of divorce decree
- Signed IRS Form 8332 if you are the non-custodial parent claiming a child
- NOTE – if you are claiming Head of Household, Earned Income Credit, Child Care Credit or Educational Credits – See your client letter for full disclosure of the documents needed. IRS regs are stringent requiring proof of eligibility for these credits.
